Pascual (Municipal Agent)

El Rincón, Zontecomatlán, Veracruz

Pascual, as a community authority, values the importance of discussing these themes because he has not heard this subject discussed in the community before, and because many people did not know where they had migrated to. For him it is important as an authority to be prepared with information and materials that he can share with his community.

He mentioned that before the assembly: “I wasn’t deeply aware of the treatment that people received in the contracts and the abuses that took place. That employers did not pay the agreed upon salary, or that the nutrition and the living conditions were poor.”

At the end of the assembly and in response to the positive reaction of people who attended, Pascual was excited: “I think if there are going to be

changes, they will need to discussed with all the neighbors in order to share information. We need to improve communication so that people share where they are migrating to and know who to approach in case of accidents.”

As a community authority he had not participated in an assembly in which these topics were discussed. He was happy that Fomento shared printed information and folders and considered it important that this information continue to be shared and that people are cautious with the consumption of drugs on ranches.
