After the information from the interviews was collected and sorted, the partner organizations of Ambulantes set about finding the best way to represent the data through an interactive quantitative tool that would help to display visually the results.

Users will be able to find the variables collected in these information management boards and cross-reference the data according to specific categories and subcategories presented in the control displays.

The main goal is that whoever uses the tool can find in a single place data in the form of representative percentages on different aspects of domestic migration by domestic migrant agricultural laborers.

Notes

1.- The daily salary is an average of salaries indicated by interviewed workers in 2022. It is in Mexican pesos.

2.- Some percentages may be rounded to 100% and others vary by about 1% because the values have been adjusted to make them more accessible.

3.- Number of people in a living space which can be a room in a house or a galera (dormitory-style housing with partitions).

4.- The “0” indicates that is no bathroom in the dwelling and the rest of the values rise according to the number of people occupying the living space. Although the number of bathrooms may seem high, in fact they are usually insufficient and in poor condition, since they are used by a high number of people (see graph “People in the dwelling).

Our map of “origins and destinations” and this interactive dashboard will become reference tools for foundations, organizations, academics, and internal agricultural migrants themselves. These actors will be able to access up to date information on migratory routes, living and labor conditions, as well as the impact of COVID-19 on migrants’ personal experiences. However, it’s important to mention the vastness of this subject and the relative size of the data sample gathered.

The results captured in these tools come from interviews with 85 people in their states of origin, carried out between April and August of 2022. The interviews were conducted with inclusion and equity at the forefront, seeking to reflect the a diverse range of voices.
