Round table

The partner organizations of the Ambulantes project met at the Commission on Human Rights of Mexico City on March 23, 2023. There, together with internal agricultural migrants, community authorities, civil society actors, and academics, we shared our experiences promoting fair and decent work for internal agricultural migrant workers.

The participating workers shared their reasons for migrating to the north of Mexico and spoke about their experiences working on ranches. The community authorities added to this with a petition for support directed at those institutions responsible for guaranteeing ‘dignified work’ for migrants. The data from interviews conducted in Veracruz and Oaxaca reflect migrants lived experiences and support this petition.

At the roundtable discussion we presented one of the principal results of the Ambulantes program, the digital platform proyectoambulantes.mx.

Those who participated in the round table concluded that while is still much work to be done the collaboration of internal agricultural migrants, civil society, academics, business, and above all, of government, will be necessary to achieve respect for rights of internal agricultural migrants.
