Ambulantes Project

THE PROJECT

Project Ambulantes is designed to improve human mobility and labor rights for domestic migrant agricultural laborers in Mexico. It is supported by IREX in partnership with Fomento Cultural y Educativo, AC; Caminos Centro de Acompañamiento a Migrantes, AC; and Centro de Estudios en Cooperación Internacional y Gestión Pública, AC.

The project began in 2021, focusing on providing information about COVID-19 prevention and labor rights to domestic migrant agricultural laborers. During this phase, the Project Ambulantes team distributed personal protective equipment (PPE) and information on self-care during the pandemic.

The initiative strengthened local organizations, particularly in the states of Oaxaca and Veracruz, by building stronger networks and enhancing the research capabilities of the partner organizations.

Building on lessons from the first phase, a second stage was implemented, continuing to address the needs of agricultural laborers and their families, as well as strengthening their abilities from their communities of origin through workshops and information campaigns, including the distribution of printed and digital materials.

Another objective is to improve services for migrant agricultural day laborers through training sessions and the creation and consolidation of strategic alliances.

This project is made possible with funding from the Walmart Foundation. The results, conclusions and recommendations presented are the sole responsibility of Project Ambulantes’ partner organizations and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the Walmart Foundation.
