Edith shared with us that before Caminos came with the information and the proposal to make the mural, she: “knew what the disease was and that it originated in China, that it is like a cold but more serious and more contagious, that in a few days many people could catch it and some could even die.”

Edith spoke to us about the process of creating the mural and what she learned: “It was good to share my time with others in the community, especially since the mural helps others to use masks and take the necessary sanitary measures.” 

For her the most important part of the process was:

“That the mural was in a place where it would be seen, and was in Zapoteco, that the mural had characteristics of the community and its inhabitants, and that the message was very clear.”

From the perspective of Edith, the process and the information helped people in the community to become more aware of COVID prevention methods. She shared the she had participated in other community efforts and that in these community efforts people should discuss issues that are important for the community, in particular the role of women and sexual health.
