Press conference

On March 23, 2023, the Ambulantes project held a press conference to share the results of research carried out in 18 communities of Veracruz and Oaxaca. The press conference was attended by internal agricultural migrant workers and local authorities who shared their migration experiences, emphasizing the difficult conditions which they have faced.

They shared with media members that migration is a need and a form of survival for them and that they benefit from information about their rights and what constiutes dignified labor conditions.  Sharing this information is one of the goals of the Ambulantes program.

The journalists in attendance raised questions about migrant schools, labor conditions which increasingly have characteristics of trafficking in persons, and the fact that child labor is still observed in agricultural labor.

The objective of the press conference was to publicize these issues, increase awareness of the conditions internal agricultural migrants face, and demand that their rights be respected. The actions of journalists and other media members are key for this goal.
